My name is Sally. I've been a sustainability educator for 15 years. I work with schools and organisations in far south west Victoria in becoming sustainable places and communities.
As an educator I am passionate and most interested in the inner work of understanding sustainability and how best to teach and learn it. I started at CERES Environment Park in Melbourne where I designed and delivered workshops and programs for young people of all ages on a range of sustainability topics and themes for 6 years.
I moved to Indonesia to teach at Green School in Bali in 2015 and returned to far south-west Victoria to continue my work with school communities in our region. I assess and facilitate Sustainability Victoria's ResourceSmart Schools Program.
After 5 years of research in classrooms and interview settings I completed my PhD in environmental sustainability education in 2015. Through my experience and research I have developed a unique approach to sustainability education that focuses on the inner workings of human thinking and learning processes. When it comes to sustainability knowing about it is not enough, we need to work towards genuine understanding, and that's what I love to do.
I am really proud to have supported Port Fairy Consolidated Primary School in becoming our region's first 5 Star Sustainable School. Since then Dunkeld Kindergarten is our first 5 Star early childhood centre and recently St Patrick's Parish School in Port Fairy also reached 5 Star status. These are incredible achievements I hope will affect the minds and hearts of generations to come as kids are educated in these beautiful places.
